GHSA introduced flag football as a sanctioned sport in 2020, but 2021 marked the first year the sport kicked off in North Fulton.
Girls from Alpharetta, Cambridge, Centennial, Chattahoochee, Johns Creek, Milton, Northview and Roswell all played their inaugural season this year, and they all played in the same region — or in this case “area.”
Roswell went 7-0 in area play to claim the Area 3 championship and one seed in the 6A-7A playoffs. Joining the Hornets in the postseason are two-seed Milton, three-seed Johns Creek and four-seed Chattahoochee, which all finished 5-2 in area play.
Following the regular season, coaches voted on the All-Area team and honors.
Roswell’s Katie Northenor took home Offensive Player of the Year, and Hornets head coach Emily Hoza was voted unanimously for Coach of the Year. Johns Creek’s Meredith Stevens and Milton’s Chase Lewis were named Co-Defensive Player of Year.
