The regular season for high school basketball has come and gone in North Fulton, and with that marks the time of year when the area’s top players receive recognition for their performance during the season.
Region 7 in Class 6A, an eight-team region which includes Cambridge, Centennial, Chattahoochee and Johns Creek, recently released its All-Region teams and honors, as voted by the region’s coaches.
Chattahoochee senior A.J. White took home Region Player of the Year for the second time after leading the Cougars to a 17-3 record during the regular season. The Cougars recently won the Reg. 7-6A tournament, taking down one-seed Centennial for the second time this season.
One of White’s running mates at Chattahoochee, junior Jordan Brown, earned first-team All-Region honors. Senior Keith Murray and junior Tomiwa Adetosoye earned honorable-mention honors.
Centennial had two starters make the All-Region first team in seniors Kyle Duncan and Logan Turner. Fellow senior K.J. Spooney and sophomore Mansir Williamson were honorable mentions.
The Knights’ third-year head coach Matt Barksdale was named Region Coach of the Year after leading his alma mater to a 19-3 finish in the regular season. The Knights will be a two seed in their first trip to the state playoffs since the 2014-15 season.
Johns Creek had three players among the region’s honorable mentions (senior Mohammed Mbye, junior McRae Ball and sophomore Aidan Temple) and Cambridge had two make the list (seniors Davis Sager and Tommy Swift).
As for the girls honors, four of the five first-team All-Region players came from Cambridge and Johns Creek.
Cambridge senior Angelina Cofrancesco, who recently became the Bears’ all-time leading scorer, and sophomore Jordynn Dudley made the All-Region first team, along with Johns Creek juniors Paris Miller and Evelina Davlakou.
Chattahoochee freshman point guard Jasmine Perez made the All-Region second team.
The honorable mentions included a few underclassmen from Centennial and Johns Creek. Centennial sophomore Ciara Ware and freshman Samantha Ambroselli earned honorable-mention honors, along with Johns Creek sophomore Nylah Nuri.
