Mount Pisgah wrestling claims traditional state title following win at state dual meet

Less than two weeks after traveling to Northwest Georgia and winning the 1A team dual state championship meet, the Mount Pisgah wrestling team made a Feb. 10 trip to Macon for the 1A traditional state meet, and the Patriots left with a bundle of hardware and another state title.

The Patriots racked up 256 points as a team, outscoring second-place Trion by 51 points to win the meet. Four Mount Pisgah wrestlers won individual state titles in their weight class, one was a runner-up and four others finished in the top four of their class.

David Bertrand (170), Joey Bertrand (152), Tyler Nelson (132) and Josh Noble (113) all won individual state titles in their respective weight classes.

Freshman Marley Washington was the runner-up in the 126 weight class.

Junior Cole Spence, who has recently received multiple Division I football offers, finished third in the 220 weight class.

Seniors Jake Piccirilli, a UNC-Pembroke signee, finished third in the 160 weight class, and Catherine-Grace Bertrand, a Presbyterian signee, finished third in the 106 weight class.

Freshman Josh Lange finished in fourth place in the 138 weight class.

With several of these wrestlers returning next year, the Patriots will likely be a force to be reckoned with as they attempt to defend their state titles.
